Odissi Techniques

Welcome to the Techniques of Odissi dance. Here we will focus on:

  • Bhumi Pranam – steppings a dancer learns to give respect to Mother Earth.
  • Exercise – condition, warm up and improve the dancer’s stamina and posture.
  • Chouka – steppings of an important bhangi (bend) in Odissi.
  • Tribhangi – steppings of another important bhangi in Odissi

Disclaimer: There are many variations to the Exercise, Chouka, and Tribhangi steppings. In this Beginner’s Guide, we will go over one of the many styles we can perform these steppings.
